The family Cichlidae Bonaparte
(1840), is one of the major groups of
teleost fishes, comprising more than
1,600 species. Nearly all of them live
their entire life in freshwater. Only
a few species frequent brackish water.
African
Cichlids constitute a large array of
almost 600 species,
each with unique behavior and differing
dietary
and habitat requirements. Lake Tanganyika
is a spectacular lake in Africa's rift
valley where there
are 12 different cichlid tribes living
in the lake. Ingredients for this type
of environment would include stripped
rock, snail shells, pebbles, heavy
boulder, plate-like layered rocks.

Fish can include Chalinochromis brichardi,
Cyphotilapia frontosa, Julidochromis
dickfeldi, Marlieri, Ornatis, and Regani,

These lakes are very deep, steep,
rocky sides and hard alkaline water.
These rivers have fish who like to be
constantly moving and shoaling cichlids
such as Firemouth, Black Belt, Red Devil,
Gold, Firehead, Tricolor, Rose-Breasted,Rainbow,
Blue-Eyed, Jaguar, and Plecostomus, and
Rhamada Catfish.
